Raspberry Pi has released the much anticipated Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W development board, the wireless variant of the Pico 2 released just a few months ago. It packs all the goodness of Pico 2 along with wireless LAN and Bluetooth.
Raspberry Pi Pico 2 and Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W are the successor to the earlier variants Raspberry Pi Pico and Raspberry Pi Pico W respectively. While the earlier variants featured the RP2040 microcontroller, the new development boards feature the more powerful RP2350 microcontroller with both Arm Cortex-M33 and RISC-V cores. The new microcontroller features faster cores, more memory, on-chip OTP, and improved security features.
This new wireless board is a fresh addition to the rapidly growing Internet-of-Things ecosystem. The wireless part is handled by the Infineon CYW43439 chip which features single-band 2.4 GHz wireless LAN (802.11n) and Bluetooth 5.2. Bluetooth 5.2 supports Bluetooth LE central and peripheral roles and Bluetooth classic.
Just like the previous boards, the new Pico 2 W supports drag-and-drop programming via USB. Both C and MicroPython programming languages are officially supported. Users can avail the vast benefits of the growing Raspberry Pi community to program the board with easily available libraries.
The company hints at new products to the Pico 2 line in the upcoming year via its blog post. Readers can refer to its official documentation for further knowledge.
